The Mayor of the town of Piešťany grants this award yearly to the figures and subjects that significantly contributed to increasing the awareness and development of the town and therefore also helped to spread the town’s reputation and how it’s presented abroad. The awards are granted for outstanding activities in these three fields: social, cultural (in the categories “Cultural figure of the year” and “Cultural Act of the Year”) as well as environmental.

The Town Library was awarded for its long-term project “I’m a Good Craftsman”, which goes above and beyond usual library activities and was conceptually developed at a very high, professional level. During this renowned exhibition, in addition to other accompanying events, dozens of creative workshops were held under the guidance of artists, craftsmen/women, and masters of folk art. The project encouraged creative thinking, children’s skills, and interest in old, folk traditions.
The Cultural Personality of 1999
The director of the Town Library Ing. Margita Galová was awarded the Town of Piešťany Mayor’s Award for activities in the field of culture in the town of Piešťany – Cultural Personality of 1999 – for her outstanding work in providing educational events for children and youth as well as for establishing an internet centre in the Town Library, which helped to further spread the good reputation of the town of Piešťany.

The Town Library, once again, received this award for its cultural activities, this time for carrying out two important events – Days of Children’s Books and the first year of the festival of children’s radio plays “Miraculous Nut”, which, with its high socio-cultural content, contributed to the development of the town’s culture and helped to further spread the good reputation of the town of Piešťany, both at home and abroad.
