Automation of library-information processes

In 1999, the Town Library in Piešťany joined the libraries using the library software Advanced Rapid Library, which is a product of the company Cosmotron Bohemia Ltd. Since then any additions to the library’s collection have been processed using a computer.

The individual stages in the automation of library processes

1998

• Purchase of basic modules for the system, catalogue IPAC, borrowing

1999

• Staff training
• Creating the computer network
• Acquisition of computer equipment and necessary accessories – barcode, barcode scanners
• Acquisitions and cataloguing the library’s collection

2000

• Start of the retrospective cataloguing in the Section for Children and Youth
• Purchase of data bases for the library’s collection from KŠK Nitra

2001

• Completion of the retrospective cataloguing in the Section for Children and Youth
• Implementation of an on-line catalogue in the Section for Adults
• Introduction of an automated lending system in the Section for Children and Youth
• Implementation of an on-line catalogue in the Section for Children and Youth
• Retrospective cataloguing of the the Section for Adults
