A Belarusian Delegation in Piešťany
On June 24, 2015 a 15-member delegation of Belarusian writers, journalists, and literary workers visited Piešťany. The visit was part of their week-long stay in Slovakia called “In the Footsteps of Janko Kupala“. This famous Belarusian author, poet, journalist, and playwright visited Slovakia in 1935 and during his stay he established close literary contacts with several Slovak writers. The delegation, led by the director of the Janko Kupala State Museum in Minsk Alena Lashkevitch, also visited the Piešťany Library as part of their program. In addition to a tour of our library, we also prepared for our Belarusian guests a demonstration of Slovak folk music performed by children from the vocal group Holubienka near the Holuby Elementary School. The program continued with the opening of the exhibition “Janko Kupala – a Slovak Meeting“, which was dedicated to the authors and individuals with whom he met during his stay in the then Czechoslovakia. The exhibition was presented by one of its creators – the director of the Music and Literary Museum - ŠVK in Banská Bystrica Soňa Šváčová. The program also included a video presentation about the Janko Kupala Museum in Minsk.
