A DAY IN THE LIBRARY

The first event held by the library to celebrate its 90th anniversary was an all-day program called “A Day in the Library“, which took place on May 15, 2015. In the morning there was an opening of the exhibition “Krajina Ilustrandia“ (“The Land of Ilustrandia“) by the talented Slovak artist Martina Matlovičová, holder of several national and international awards. The program included performances by the popular television characters “Trpaslíci“ (the Dwarves) under the direction of the creative RTVS producer Ján Uličiansky. In addition to elementary school children the event was also attended by several well-known authors, illustrators, publishers and representatives of cultural and social institutions, as well as individuals representing partners and sponsors from Piešťany and Bratislava. The program continued with the official opening of the new entertainment and educational space “The Clever Submarine“ in the Children's Section. It's artistic design was created by Michal Staško, laureate and winner of the Crystal Wing award. The artist Mária Nerádová, who won the award for the Most Beautiful Slovak Book in 2010 for her Slovak-Czech picture dictionary for children, was responsible for the illustrative sections of the submarine. The symbolic cutting of the ribbon was carried out by Piešťany Mayor Miloš Tamajka, former Mayor Remo Cicutto and Juraj Csontos, Mária Nerádová and Michal Staško together with his daughter Nataška. The “Day in the Library” continued in the afternoon with an entertaining and educational program for children and their parents called “Trpaslíci – malí veľkí priatelia” (Dwarves – Little Great Friends), which was performed, once again, by the popular TV characters “Trpaslíci“ (the Dwarves).
