All Slovakia Reads to Children

Another of the regular and recurring events, in which our library is a co-organizer, is the project All Slovakia Reads to Children.

This is a nationwide project, whose main idea is “let’s read to children 20 minutes a day, every day!”. The reading takes place during the autumn months and in each of the selected towns in Slovakia an hour-long program is prepared during which the main guest readers are important figures from the respective town or region such as artists, writers, actors, athletes – anyone who is willing to read for a few minutes from his/her favourite children’s book. By so doing they not only make the children’s free time more enjoyable, but also show them that even reading from a book can be fun. The goal of the project is to get both children and adults to come back to books. The main organizer of the event is the civic association Celé Slovensko číta deťom (All Slovakia Reads to Children). The Piešťany Town Library has taken part in the project twice, in 2012 and 2013.
